Review Methodology
Exactly how we research products and decide what to buy and what to skip.
How we research products
Every verdict follows the same process. We tell you when something is based on specifications and documented information rather than hands-on use.
Read our full methodologyStart with your needs
We define who the product is for and what problem it should solve before looking at any models.
Verify specifications
We check manufacturer documentation, manuals and warranty terms, and note anything that cannot be confirmed.
Compare like for like
We line up competing products on the features that change the experience, not the ones that pad a spec sheet.
Weigh the trade-offs
Every product gets honest pros, cons and a clear note on who should skip it.
Give a verdict
Buy, consider or skip, with alternatives, and we revisit it when products or prices change.
Our process, step by step
- Research: we define who the product is for and list the realistic options
- Specification verification: we check claims against manufacturer documentation and note anything we can’t confirm
- Use-case analysis: we work out which features matter for each type of buyer
- Feature comparison: we line up competing products on those features
- Value analysis: we compare what you get against typical prices
- Pros and cons: every product gets honest cons and a “skip it if”
- Alternatives: we name other good options
- Editorial review: an editor checks the verdict and the reasoning
What our verdicts mean
- Buy: a strong choice for the people described in “buy it if”
- Consider: good for some people, but with trade-offs you should understand first
- Skip: most people will be better served by an alternative
Research scores
Some products show a research score out of 10. It reflects our assessment of features, value and trade-offs for the intended buyer. It is not a customer rating and is never copied from a retailer.
Prices
Prices change often, so we show typical price ranges and link to the retailer for the current price.
